The Wolverines kept their dominance going as they easily handled a well prepared Eastbay Outlaws team last Saturday night with another 40+ point performance by the Offense, and held the Outlaws to 20 points on defense. The final was 48-20, and after it was all said and done the Wolverines walked away winners and a step closer to the title.
The Wolverines opened the flood gates early and marched down the field on numerous occassions to score at will against a solid Outlaws defense. In fact the Outlaws were coming off three consecutive wins and were riding a win streak of their own, until they hit West Sacramento, and that ride came to an abrupt stop.
On offense Johnnie Nolen once again led the ground attack and scored on two occassions, as well as having a host of other runners scoring as well. Gus Moore and Erik Potts pitched in with solid performacnces capped off by touchdown scores of their own.
The air attack was just as solid as Tommy Curry was able to find recievers early and often and had recievers such as Zeph Payne, and Camrn Mbewa open on numerous occassions. The pair also combined for one touchdown a piece and that helped to solidify yet another stellar performance on offense.
The defense was also in on the act as Mykhael Robertson finally was able to pick off Alex Amin of the Outlaws and make it into the endzone for his first defensive score on the season. Robertson has had success tackling this season, but has been held at bay in the interception department this season. Last season he led the league with 10 interceptions, and over 200 return yards for scores.
The defenders have had solid performances this season, and Saturday night was another example of that solid work as they took the physcial approach vs the Outlaws and took them out of their game early on.
The defense was led by the likes of veteran Linebacker Chris "CD" Daniels as he laid one vicious hit after another. At one point Daniels went on a personal rampage in the latter half of the second quarter and managed to dismantle a running back , seprarating him from his helmet, and then several other solid hits on the Outlaws. Sydney Wallace, a first year cover corner, also had a big night with two key interceptions on the evening.
Now with another win in the books, the Wolverines will face a battle hardened Marin Bulldogs team this week. The Bulldogs are in third place in the AFC with a win over the NFC Leading California Warriors last week.
If the playoffs were to start today, the Wolverines would host the #4 Seeded Woodland Wolfpack, and the #2 Norrthbay Rattlers would host the #3 Marin Bulldogs. The Wolverines faced the Wolfpack on the road in week 1 and defeated them 35-6 in Woodland.
